SPATIAL READING OF APEX BY ARTHUR JAFA

In the film Apex, Arthur Jafa presents a collection of images in an exhaustive series as slides in progression, that at times seemingly connect to the pulsing beat of the soundtrack. Always in conversation with the fluctuating tempo.

Through image and sound, black intonation is powerfully visualized. This Simulation harnesses that power by collecting and projecting vectors at a screen, emanating geometry manipulated by sound, spatializing rhythm and color, into a re-constructed continuum.

A Re-Continuum.

Here, acute sensitivity, to rhythm and spatial array, is not caused to capitulate.

The Dub Structure - an experiential object, or fabricate, that separates the audio and visuals of Apex constructing an altered, derived experience. The vibrations created in the rattling metal polyhedron create a visceral presence that cannot be ignored. The projection of light and sound are turned towards each other, furthering the spatial experience in the form of an object with a complex presence of disruption and beauty.
